Hello again everyone. Welcome to another installment of Rick’s Random Ramblings.
Sorry it has been so long since my last posting. Much going on round here.
Anyway, I said I was going to talk about how Ethan’s Mum and Dad came into the picture. Mind you that Mum and Dad prefer to keep in the background. So I will keep it brief. But I feel they deserve a bit of recognition. They are doing a superb job in raising Ethan and deserve all the kudos.

Ethan and I had been corresponding for some time, discussing musical ideas, etc. One day I came up with an idea that could possibly help with the sales on his “I understand…” T-shirts. I mentioned this and soon had a very nice letter from his dad. After reading this letter, I knew that I had found a true friend in Ethan‘s dad. I started looking into the possibilities for merchandising his products in my area. Unfortunately, due to logistical problems, those plans just didn’t pan out.
Over the ensuing weeks, many letters were written back and forth between Ethan‘s family and me. As we got to know more about each other, we became quite close. The miles didn’t seem to matter to us. There was a bond of friendship that transgressed the oceans. And this friendship was now with Ethan’s entire family.
I really wanted to do something nice for this terrific family. It was they who inspired me to start playing again after all. Since I am a woodworker, I decided to make something form wood. And what better way to show off your name than with a wood plaque? This idea went over well and I went to work on them. Naturally, Ethan got the very first one, signed by me. There were a total of tewlve made, of which three still remain.

I think one of the high points for me was when I was invited to appear on Ethan’s Random Rock Show. This caught me completely off-guard! What an honour! So the Christmas Special Random Rock Show went out…with me on it! I cannot express the honour that I felt in being invited to that show.

These days, I am very close with Ethan and his Family. Well, as close as one can be while thousands of miles apart. Ethan and I have been studying music theory together for some time. Ethan is a dynamic young man and is hungry for knowledge. Knowledge I am more than glad to share with him. And I am very happy to say that his Dad is there with us, learning as we go. …Funny, his Dad seems to be getting as much from these learning sessions as Ethan is.
Since we have been studying music together, it would only be natural to assume we would write songs together as well. And that is precisely what has happened.
